The fourth instalment in the World Cancer Report Updates webinar series will be broadcast live on Thursday 6 May 2021 at 14:00 CET. The topic of the webinar will be the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on cancer screening. The event, which will last approximately one hour, will include two presentations and a question and answer session. Dr Iacopo Baussano, a scientist in the Early Detection, Prevention, and Infections Branch at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), will chair the event.
This webinar will answer three main questions: What are the consequences of COVID-19 for cancer screening? What challenges have been encountered by countries? What could be turned into an opportunity, and what lessons have been learned? Examples from low-income and high-income countries will be provided by the guest lecturers: Professor Joakim Dillner, Professor of Infectious Disease Epidemiology at the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden, and Dr Partha Basu, Deputy Head of the Early Detection, Prevention, and Infections Branch at IARC. The experts will also touch on lessons learned from the COVID-19 health crisis that could help national cancer screening programmes to “build back better”.
The World Cancer Report Updates webinar series aims to provide new perspectives or present new research, to complement the large variety of educational resources based on selected content of World Cancer Report. These educational resources are freely accessible from the World Cancer Report Updates learning platform, which was developed with the support of and in collaboration with the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO).
