IARC Governing Council meets in Lyon for Sixty-Eighth Session

The Sixty-Eighth Session of the Governing Council of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) is taking place on 27–28 May 2026 in Lyon, France, and online as a hybrid meeting. This session of the Governing Council is chaired by Professor Dorothy Keefe, the Chief Executive Officer of Cancer Australia, Australia’s national cancer agency.

The Governing Council is meeting after the IARC@60 conference, which was held in Lyon on 19–21 May, and the World Health Assembly, which was held in Geneva, Switzerland, on 18–23 May.

The Governing Council directs the general policies of the Agency and includes representatives from the World Health Organization, as well as from the ministries of health, national cancer institutes, or similar government bodies involved in public health from each IARC Participating State. The Chairperson of the IARC Scientific Council also typically attends the Governing Council meeting as an Observer.
