Testicular cancer incidence burden predicted to increase in Europe up to 2035

A new study conducted by researchers from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and collaborators quantifies the future number of new cases of testicular cancer in 28 European countries up to 2035, taking into account recent trends in incidence rates as well as demographic projections.

Testicular cancer is the most common cancer type in young men of European ancestry. One third of all cases worldwide are estimated to occur in Europe. Although incidence rates have stabilized in the highest-risk European countries, large increases in rates have been observed in lower-risk countries, including Finland, the Baltic countries, and some countries in eastern Europe.

The number of patients with testicular cancer is predicted to increase in 20 of the 28 countries by 2035, compared with 2010, and the overall number of patients is predicted to increase by 13%. The largest increases are predicted in eastern Europe, where survival is lower. This reinforces the need to ensure the provision of effective treatment for this highly treatable disease.
