IARC launches its first crowdfunding campaign to equip the Nouveau Centre

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has launched its first crowdfunding campaign to finance the purchase and installation of equipment for its new headquarters, the Nouveau Centre building. The campaign was launched externally during a press conference on 6 July 2021 held at the construction site of the Nouveau Centre.

Construction of the Nouveau Centre building has been supported by some of IARC’s Participating States, most notably by the French government, and by local government authorities in Lyon and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region. However, funding has not been secured to equip the building, including providing laboratory equipment, critical IT systems, office spaces, and the infrastructure necessary to house one of the world’s largest collections of biological samples.

IARC is looking to both businesses and individuals to help fill the funding gap, confident in the knowledge that they value the Agency’s research on cancer prevention and share IARC’s vision of a world where fewer people develop cancer. Supporters who donate €50 or more will be able to have their name, or that of a loved one, inscribed on the glass walls of the Nouveau Centre building in recognition of their contribution. IARC can also accept in-kind donations such as equipment, furnishings, or services.

The Nouveau Centre building is located in the Biodistrict of Gerland in Lyon, France, and is scheduled for completion at the end of 2022.
