Two IARC publications highly commended by the British Medical Association
Two books published by IARC were shortlisted for the 2013 British Medical Association (BMA) Medical Book Awards and recognized as outstanding contributions to the medical literature.
A Review of Human Carcinogens, a six-book package of Volume 100 of the IARC Monographs on the Evaluation of Carcinogenic Risks to Humans, was highly commended in the Public Health category. The panel commented: “This is an important resource in that it defines the current state of evidence-based thinking on cancer-causing agents. It meets its objectives very well and is an authoritative statement from an authoritative body.”
WHO Classification of Tumours of the Breast, 4th edition, was highly commended in the Pathology category. The panel commented: “This book is very well-written, easy to read and comprehend. It has the right amount of detail but also covers the topics and includes good quality and relevant illustrations. It has clarity over a range of conditions, some of which are traditionally complex.”
Prizes are awarded annually in 21 categories. The BMA judging panel evaluates books for their applicability to the audience, production quality, and originality. This year’s BMA Awards ceremony was held on 17 September.
