Third annual meeting of the IARC-coordinated DISCERN project takes place in Brno, Czechia

The third annual meeting of the Discovering the Causes of Three Poorly Understood Cancers in Europe (DISCERN) project, which is coordinated by researchers at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), is taking place on 4–5 June 2025 at Masaryk University in Brno, Czechia.

This year’s meeting includes a dedicated Colorectal Cancer Workshop, which convenes leading experts in the field. The workshop is structured into three focused sessions: (i) colorectal cancer epidemiology, (ii) molecular insights into colorectal cancer etiology, and (iii) the microbiome and beyond. The goal of the sessions is to share cutting-edge research and explore emerging directions in the understanding of colorectal cancer.

The DISCERN project is a consortium of 19 partners with the aim of discovering unknown causes of three poorly understood cancer types: renal cancer, pancreatic cancer, and colorectal cancer. It is funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe Mission on Cancer, through the Horizon Europe programme, and by the United Kingdom Research and Innovation Agency.
