Cancer Screening in Five Continents (CanScreen5): a global data repository for breast, cervical, and colorectal cancer screening programmes

The CanScreen5 project collects information on the characteristics and performance of cancer screening programmes across the globe in a harmonized manner. National data providers are invited to share information on screening programmes. The data collection tools, the standardized methodology for data collection and for estimating the performance indicators, and the facility to compare the indicators are made available through a web platform.

The World Health Organization (WHO) supports IARC’s CanScreen5 initiative, which aims to enhance cancer screening efforts across the WHO African Region. This collaboration focuses on training programme managers from various African countries, providing them with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively manage and improve cancer screening programmes. The CanScreen5 project is instrumental in harmonizing data collection, encouraging the use of cancer screening data for programme evaluation, and fostering continuous quality improvement of screening services.
