Summary
Stomach cancer is the sixth most commonly occurring cancer and the fifth most common cause of cancer death, with just less than 1 million new cases estimated to have been diagnosed in 2024 and more than 640 000 people estimated to have died of stomach cancer that year. Almost two thirds of new cases and more than two thirds of deaths occur among men. The largest burden of stomach cancer occurs in Asia. China alone accounts for more than one third of all new cases and deaths.
