Friends of IARC

Professor Véronique Trillet-Lenoir

Member of the European Parliament

Being a Friend of IARC is a privilege. As a Member of the European Parliament, I am happy to rely on the work of the Agency for science-based policies against cancer, and to contribute to the ambition of global cooperation in health, as promoted by IARC.”

Professor Véronique Trillet-Lenoir was a Member of the European Parliament from 2019 onwards. As Rapporteur of the European Parliament’s Special Committee on Beating Cancer, she was responsible for defining the Parliament’s position on the Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan proposed by the European Commission. She was the vice-coordinator for the Renew Europe group in the Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, and she also served as a substitute member in the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs. She chaired the Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) Against Cancer group in the European Parliament, which consists of more than 120 Members from different political groups.

As a university professor and public service medical doctor by profession, Professor Trillet-Lenoir held degrees in medicine and biology. She had experience as a clinician, teacher, and researcher as well as the President of a French Cancer Cluster and the Administrator of the French National Cancer Institute. She was a Member of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Regional Assembly from 2015 to 2021.

Professor Trillet-Lenoir was a close Friend of IARC. We are deeply saddened by her passing on 9 August 2023.
