The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) marks Oesophageal Cancer Awareness Month in April. IARC is taking this opportunity to highlight some of the activities that the Agency’s researchers and scientists lead or collaborate in with the goal of preventing this disease. Worldwide, oesophageal cancer is one of the most common cancer types and a leading cause of cancer death.
In a new interview, Dr Valerie McCormack of the Section of Environment and Radiation at IARC describes one of the main IARC research projects studying oesophageal cancer, with the goals of understanding the causes of this cancer type and identifying strategies to prevent the disease.
