Bladder cancer risk in painters: a meta-analysis
Online First Occup Environ Med 2010; doi 10.1136/oem.2009.051565
A comprehensive meta-analysis corroborates that occupation as a painter is an independent risk factor for bladder cancer, after adjusting for smoking and other occupational exposures. The risk increases with increasing number of years of employment as a painter. This analysis follows from a 2007 IARC Monographs meeting that classified “occupational exposure as a painter” as carcinogenic to humans (Group 1) on the basis of increased risks of bladder cancer, lung cancer and mesothelioma.
