The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) is pleased to announce the launch of Cancer Over Time, a new subsite of the IARC Global Cancer Observatory.
Cancer Over Time is a web-based platform that enables interactive visualizations of the trends in cancer-specific incidence and mortality rates in 60 countries over the past 65 years. The underlying data are the recorded national or subnational incidence data from cancer registries compiled in successive volumes of Cancer Incidence in Five Continents and recorded national cancer-specific mortality data from the World Health Organization (WHO) Mortality Database.
The analytical tools included in the Cancer Over Time subsite enable age–period–cohort analysis, including visual inspection of the rates versus birth cohort and calendar period by age group, and a quantification of the direction and magnitude of time trends in a user-specified time period. A key future aim is to enable registries to submit timely aggregated data for the subsite on a routine basis, thus ensuring that up-to-date recorded information is available on cancer incidence and mortality worldwide.
