Cancer Epidemiology – Africa’s growing cancer burden: Environmental and occupational contributions

Environmental and occupational exposures, often modifiable, contribute to Africa’s cancer burden, projected to double between 2008 and 2030. This article highlights circumstances present in certain African settings that give rise to high levels of exposure and unique exposure patterns to established and possibly carcinogenic agents at work and in the external environment. They present research opportunities informative for cancer aetiology in general and for local cancer burdens.
