The eighth instalment in the World Cancer Report Updates webinar series will be broadcast live on Wednesday 12 July 2023 at 11:00 CEST. The topic of the webinar will be Liquid Biopsy-Based Biomarkers for Cancer Detection and Monitoring. The event, which will last approximately 1.5 hours, will include three presentations and a question and answer session. Dr Florence Le Calvez-Kelm, a scientist in the Genomic Epidemiology Branch at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), will chair the event.
In the first presentation, Professor Klaus Pantel, Director of the Institute of Tumor Biology at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, Germany, will discuss a conceptual framework of circulating tumours cells and circulating tumour DNA assays and point out current challenges of research on circulating tumour cells and circulating tumour DNA, which might structure this dynamic field of translational cancer research.
In the second presentation, Professor Alain R. Thierry, Director of Research at the Institut de Recherche en Cancérologie de Montpellier, France, will review the origins and structure of circulating DNA in oncology and present lessons learned from recent studies and emerging approaches.
In the third presentation, Dr Florence Le Calvez-Kelm will present the urine assay that was developed by IARC to detect mutations in the promoter of the TERT gene (uTERTpm), which has been shown to have excellent performance for the detection of bladder cancer in urine samples in two independent studies.
The World Cancer Report Updates webinar series aims to provide new perspectives or present new research, to complement the large variety of educational resources based on selected content of World Cancer Report. These educational resources are freely accessible from the World Cancer Report Updates learning platform, which was developed with the support of and in collaboration with the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO).
