Third annual IAEA–IARC–WHO consultation

Researchers from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) met online with colleagues from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for the third annual IAEA–IARC–WHO consultation to discuss the methodology of the integrated mission of the Programme of Action for Cancer Therapy (imPACT) Reviews. The meeting was held on 13–14 December 2021.

The objectives of this meeting were to review areas of collaboration, to promote alignment among strategic documents of these three United Nations (UN) agencies, and to identify priority countries for action in 2022. As part of the agenda, the participants reviewed the successes and challenges of the past year, formulated new joint strategies and initiatives, reviewed the two-year country support plans, identified potential candidates for subsequent imPACT Reviews, and identified potential countries for collaboration on other cancer control assessments and follow-up work.

This convening opportunity is the only organized event for the three primary UN agencies working in cancer control to strategize more broadly beyond the imPACT Review programme. This annual consultation is an opportunity to set the cancer agenda within the UN system and to define a clear set of achievable priorities for the next few years, thus demonstrating the power of the UN agencies when they deliver as one.
