The mycotoxin aflatoxin B1 stimulates Epstein–Barr virus-induced B-cell transformation in in vitro and in vivo experimental models
A new study by researchers from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and partners demonstrates in
in vitro and
in vivo experimental models that aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) stimulates the oncogenic potential of Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) infection. The findings, published in
Carcinogenesis, also emphasize the possibility that AFB1 may contribute to other virus-associated cancers and identify an urgent need to seek new associations, particularly in Africa.
