Professor Véronique Trillet-Lenoir (12 June 1957–9 August 2023)

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) was profoundly saddened to learn of the passing of Professor Véronique Trillet-Lenoir on Wednesday 9 August 2023.

Professor Trillet-Lenoir was a friend of IARC for many years, through her work as a renowned oncologist, as the Director of the Cancéropôle Lyon Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (CLARA) from 2013 to 2020, and as a Member of the European Parliament.

Professor Trillet-Lenoir had been a Member of the European Parliament since 2019. As Rapporteur of the European Parliament’s Special Committee on Beating Cancer, she was responsible for defining the Parliament’s position on the Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan proposed by the European Commission. She was the vice-coordinator for the Renew Europe group in the Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, and she also served as a substitute member in the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs. She chaired the Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) Against Cancer group in the European Parliament, which consists of more than 120 Members from different political groups.

IARC extends its sincere condolences to Professor Trillet-Lenoir’s family, colleagues, and friends.
