Professor Neerja Bhatla to receive the 2023 IARC Award for Women in Cancer Research on 13 October

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) is pleased to welcome Professor Neerja Bhatla to the new IARC headquarters building in Lyon, France, to receive the 2023 IARC Award for Women in Cancer Research. This award recognizes outstanding contributions in the field of cancer prevention research by scientists who identify as women.

Professor Neerja Bhatla to receive the 2023 IARC Award for Women in Cancer Research on 13 October

IARC Director Dr Elisabete Weiderpass will present the award to Professor Bhatla in a ceremony on Friday 13 October at 10:00 CEST. The presentation of the award will be followed by a seminar by Professor Bhatla. The event will be livestreamed on the IARC YouTube channel, and a recording will be made available.

Professor Bhatla is the Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, India. For the past 35 years, her career has been devoted to the elimination of cervical cancer, with a particular focus on low-resource settings. Her research has had a global impact on the improvement of access to human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination and screening, and she has championed cervical cancer awareness, education, screening, and treatment in remote and hard-to-reach populations.
