The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) coordinates a study entitled “Role of human papillomavirus infection and other co-factors in the aetiology of head and neck cancer in Europe and India” (HPV-AHEAD) that has recently received a grant by the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) of the European Commission in the Cooperation Work Programme: Health 2011. This proposal will be focused on the elucidation of the role of human papillomavirus (HPV) types and other environmental risk factors in HNC in Europe and India. Overall, the study will provide important insights for the screening, diagnosis, treatment and prophylaxis of HPV-associated HNC in Europe, India and elsewhere.
