Scientists from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and European partners gathered in Bled, Slovenia, on 9–12 March 2026 for the European Joint Action on Cancer Screening (EUCanScreen) Work Package 4 (WP4) Target-Support Mechanism (TSM) kick-off meeting and consortium event. EUCanScreen is funded by the European Union’s EU4HEALTH Programme, and the WP4 TSM is designed to support collaboration between countries by creating opportunities to exchange knowledge, share practical experiences, and identify approaches to strengthen cancer screening programmes across Europe.
The WP4 TSM kick-off meeting brought together representatives from target countries and supporting countries. Through poster sessions, mini-talks, and interactive workshops, the participants explored shared challenges and opportunities, fostering mutual learning across diverse contexts in Europe. The meeting was marked by a strong spirit of collaboration, openness, and shared ambition.
The EUCanScreen consortium event provided an opportunity for partners to review progress across the different work packages nearly halfway through the project. Engaging presentations and lively discussions created valuable opportunities to connect, exchange ideas, and align on the next steps.
IARC is honoured to contribute to this joint European effort, drawing on evidence and insights from close collaboration with partners across Europe to help strengthen and advance cancer screening programmes.
