Friends of IARC
Ms Caroline Garcia
“I support IARC because it is very important to me to help share the results of scientific research and maybe, by doing so, to help prevent cancer and save lives. I am very proud and honoured to be a Friend of IARC and to contribute, in my own way, to the fight to prevent cancer.”
Ms Caroline Garcia joined the professional tennis circuit in 2011, at age 18. Two years later, she entered the Top 100 players, won her first Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) title, and ended the season at number 37. In 2016, Ms Garcia won two more titles. During the 2017 season, she reached the quarter-final at Roland-Garros and the final 16 at Wimbledon. Her victories in two successive major tournaments took her into the Top 10, and she ended the year as number eight in the world.
In 2018, Ms Garcia reached the final 16 at the Australian Open and at Roland-Garros and the semi-final in the Madrid Open. She won her seventh WTA title, which moved her up to world number four, her highest ranking to date. She was part of the French team that won the Fed Cup and she won the doubles competition with her partner. In 2020, she reached the third round of the US Open and the final 16 at Roland-Garros.
After a challenging 2021, Ms Garcia had her most successful season to date in 2022. She finished the season at world number four, matching her career high ranking first achieved in 2018.
