The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) is saddened by the passing of Dr Luc Raymond, who died on Sunday 14 October 2018 in Geneva, Switzerland.
Dr Raymond established the Geneva Cancer Registry and was its director until he retired in 2001. He was a close collaborator of IARC since the 1970s. In 1975–1976, together with Professor Enrico Anglesio of Turin, Italy, and Dr Albert Tuyns of IARC, Dr Raymond established the Group for Cancer Epidemiology and Registration in Latin Language Countries (GRELL), a scientific organization that has actively catalysed the development not only of cancer registration but also of analytical studies in the Latin language countries.
Dr Raymond was a co-author, with Dr Jacques Estève of IARC and Dr Ellen Benhamou of Paris, of the reference volume Statistical Methods in Cancer Research Volume IV: Descriptive Epidemiology (IARC Scientific Publications, No. 128), published in 1994.
Dr Raymond is survived by his wife, Heidi, with whom he shared a lifelong passion for music.
