The human exposome is defined as the combination of different exposures (diet, lifestyle, and living and working environment), from the prenatal period onwards, that can affect health. The European Union (EU) has sustained its commitment to this research field through an exceptionally large investment to enable the study of the human exposome. The EU is launching the European Human Exposome Network, which combines nine research projects funded under Horizon 2020, the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation. Together, these projects represent €106 million of funding from the EU over a 5-year period.
The launch event, which will take place on 11 February in Brussels, Belgium, will provide an opportunity to learn more about the exposome concept and the projects of the European Human Exposome Network. The event is open to all interested participants and will be a unique opportunity to interact with leading European scientists and policy-makers in this area of research.
The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) is pleased to be part of the European Human Exposome Network, through the Agency’s participation in two of the projects: Exposome powered tools for healthy living in urban settings (EXPANSE) (Coordinator, Professor Roel Vermeulen, Institute for Risk Assessment Sciences, Utrecht University, The Netherlands) and the Human Exposome Assessment Platform (HEAP) (Coordinator, Professor Joakim Dillner, Department of Laboratory Medicine, Karolinska Institutet, Sweden).
