IARC to support the launch of the flagship EU Mobile App for Cancer Prevention

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) is a partner in a new project called Boosting the Usability of the EU Mobile App for Cancer Prevention (BUMPER). This two-year project is funded by the European Union (EU) EU4Health programme.

The European Code Against Cancer is a well-established educational tool for communicating evidence-based information to individuals about cancer risks and preventive measures. To bring the messages of the Code to a broader and more diverse population, the EU is developing the EU Mobile App for Cancer Prevention and is launching the BUMPER project to support the design, development, and promotion of the app.

BUMPER is running in parallel with the project to update the European Code Against Cancer, which IARC is coordinating. IARC’s role is to ensure alignment between the two projects, so that the scientific content and decisions made in the updating project on new features and target audiences are reflected in the design of the app.

The Environment and Lifestyle Epidemiology Branch at IARC will provide scientific expertise to support the validation of the app and will provide the link to the forthcoming 5th edition of the European Code Against Cancer, which is expected to be launched in early 2025.

BUMPER is coordinated by the Association of European Cancer Leagues (ECL). Contact ECL for any questions you may have about the project at: bumper@cancer.eu.
