This fifth report in a series to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2016 focuses on a study of breast cancer survival in sub-Saharan Africa. A recently published article describes the African Breast Cancer – Disparities in Outcomes (ABC-DO) study, which is led by researchers from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). The article presents the study protocol, which includes using a mobile health (mHealth) study management system. Dr Valerie McCormack and Dr Fiona McKenzie, scientists in the IARC Section of Environment and Radiation and the ABC-DO IARC study leaders, provide more information about the study.
