Impact of cigarette smoking on life expectancy (1980–2010)

A study led by researchers from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) assesses changes in the impact of tobacco smoking on life expectancy in 63 countries around the world during the past three decades. The study, published today in the journal Tobacco Control, shows that if smoking-related deaths were eliminated, adult life expectancy would increase on average by 2.4 years in men and 1 year in women
