IARC/IC3R at ISOBM 2025: session and workshop on the WHO Classification of Tumours and evidence-based pathology

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and the International Collaboration for Cancer Classification and Research (IC3R) will be represented at the 47th Conference of the International Society of Oncology and Biomarkers (ISOBM), to be held in Murnau, Germany, on 13–16 October 2025.

Dr Dilani Samarawickrema Lokuhetty, head of the World Health Organization (WHO) Classification of Tumours programme at IARC and IC3R principal investigator, and Dr Iciar Indave, IARC systematic reviewer and IC3R coordinator, will chair a session on evidence-based pathology on 15 October. This session will spotlight the WHO Classification of Tumours (WCT), the work of the IARC-led IC3R initiative, and the European Union-funded WCT EVI MAP project, which focuses on mapping the available evidence by generating living evidence gap maps.

In addition, a 4-hour workshop dedicated to evidence-based pathology, to be held on 16 October, will convene experts interested in implementing or scaling up evidence-based pathology in their professional practice, including pathologists, researchers, oncologists, and laboratory medicine specialists. This workshop will showcase good practice and tools for evidence-based pathology and will provide an opportunity to share practical experiences on synthesizing evidence-based medicine principles and evidence-based clinical diagnostic practice. The workshop will be led by Dr Indave together with Dr Fiona Campbell, Dr Elena Plans, and Dr Oana Craciun.
