The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) is in the final stages of leaving its premises at Grange Blanche, Lyon, France, to move to its new headquarters, the Nouveau Centre building in the Biodistrict of Gerland, Lyon, after 50 years of conducting cancer research for cancer prevention at the current site. The Grange Blanche site is no longer fit for purpose, as a result of numerous and increasingly frequent breakdowns in critical systems.
The Nouveau Centre building represents IARC’s bold commitment to open science, characterized by the Agency’s new medium-term strategy and research structure. IARC is now organized around four cross-functional research pillars, with the goals of increased collaboration across specialties and greater implementation of research findings.
The Agency is set to move equipment to the Nouveau Centre at the end of 2022 and welcome its personnel to the new premises in early 2023, beginning a new chapter in IARC’s pursuit of a world where fewer people develop cancer.
