The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) will be strongly represented at the Science Summit at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA79), which opened on Tuesday 10 September 2024, in New York, USA. Dr Zisis Kozlakidis, Head of Laboratory Support, Biobanking, and Services at IARC, and Dr Inge Huybrechts, Head of the Lifestyle Exposure and Interventions Team in the Nutrition and Metabolism Branch at IARC, will participate in and lead in-person and online meetings related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and improving health systems.
Dr Kozlakidis and Dr Huybrechts, in collaboration with colleagues from Columbia University, New York, will convene a meeting on “Children, Nutrition and Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs): The Science Behind the Unmet Need of Health Services”. The session is supported by the Ministry of Health of Kenya through the presence of Dr Gladwell Gathecha, Head of the Division of Non-Communicable Diseases at the Ministry of Health of Kenya. The meeting will take place as an in-person event on 16 September 2024 at 15:30 Eastern Daylight Time (EDT).
In addition, Dr Kozlakidis will convene an online session on “Digitalization of Healthcare: from Technology to Insights”, on 18 September 2024 at 17:00 EDT. This online session is supported by the Ministry of National Guards Health Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The session will address issues related to precision health and will answer key questions, including how to translate the digital technologies and information into actionable data in clinics, and how such approaches affect the overall health and wellness of a population. A particular focus will be placed on the development of innovative digital health ecosystems.
