IARC at the 33rd Annual Meeting of the International Congress on Nutrition and Integrative Medicine

Dr Zdenko Herceg, Head of the Epigenomics and Mechanisms Branch at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), delivered a keynote lecture at the 33rd Annual Meeting of the International Congress on Nutrition and Integrative Medicine (ICNIM2025), in Sapporo, Japan, on 8 November. He also delivered a public seminar in Sapporo on 7 November. ICNIM2025 was held on 8–9 November 2025.

Dr Herceg’s keynote address, titled “Cancer Epigenetics: Unravelling Molecular Mechanisms to Advance Treatment and Prevention”, focused on how epigenetic changes – reversible molecular switches that regulate gene activity – play a key role in cancer development and open new avenues for prevention and treatment. This is a key area of focus for IARC’s mission to reduce the global cancer burden. The public seminar highlighted cancer prevention and the role of scientific discovery in empowering healthier lives. Both the keynote lecture and the public seminar had simultaneous translation into Japanese, Korean, and Chinese for audience members.

This engagement reflects IARC’s commitment to international collaboration and outreach in the field of cancer research and prevention.
