Report of the Advisory Group to Recommend an Update to the Preambles to the IARC Handbooks

In 2019, IARC convened an Advisory Group to Recommend an Update to the Preambles to the IARC Handbooks on primary and secondary prevention. The Advisory Group made specific recommendations for revising the Preambles and prepared a report highlighting the key changes and the issues discussed. The Report of the Advisory Group is now available online.

The Preambles to the IARC Handbooks of Cancer Prevention provide a framework for the evaluation of scientific evidence on the preventive effects of primary and secondary cancer prevention measures. Each Preamble describes the objective and scope of the programme, general principles and procedures used in developing a volume of the IARC Handbooks, and the scientific review and evaluations.

The outcomes of the Advisory Group meeting were the revised Preambles for primary prevention and for screening, which were made available earlier this year and supersede the Working Procedures.
