HEAP symposium: Frontiers in Human Exposome Research

Dr Zisis Kozlakidis, Head of Laboratory Support, Biobanking, and Services at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), will deliver a presentation on cancer and the exposome during the Human Exposome Assessment Platform (HEAP) symposium titled “Frontiers in Human Exposome Research”. The symposium, which will be hosted by the Medical University of Graz and the Biobanking and BioMolecular resources Research Infrastructure Austria (BBMRI.at), will take place as a hybrid online and in-person event on Wednesday 1 June from 13:00 to 17:30 CEST. Dr Kozlakidis will present on the theme of “Globalisation of exposome research – approaches and cancer research”.

The HEAP symposium is open to all and free to attend. It will provide a snapshot of exposome research in 2022 and the challenges faced by researchers regarding infrastructure, ethical and legal issues, and data management. The presenters will outline the practical solutions being developed to address these research challenges, including the HEAP informatics platform, which will provide researchers with a powerful tool for the analysis of exposome data.

IARC is one of the partner institutions delivering the HEAP project, funded by the European Union (EU) Horizon 2020 programme. Of the 12 Work Packages that comprise the HEAP project, IARC leads the Work Package on Education and Dissemination and supports those on Management and on Cluster Activities. The HEAP symposium is an official partner event of EU Green Week 2022, which takes place on 30 May to 5 June 2022. This is an annual opportunity to debate European environmental policy with policy-makers, leading environmentalists, and stakeholders from Europe and beyond.
