Delegates from the Ministry of Health of Brazil visit IARC

Five delegates from the Ministry of Health of Brazil visited the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) during the week of 13–17 June 2022 to learn about IARC’s activities and meet with IARC scientists.

Dr Jaqueline Martins, Dr Luiz Belino Ferreira Sales, Dr Leonora Rios de Souza Moreira, Dr Isabella de Oliveira Campos Miquilin, and Dr Renan Duarte dos Santos Saraiva, all of the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health and Surveillance of Public Health Emergencies at the Ministry of Health in Brasilia, Brazil, met with IARC Director Dr Elisabete Weiderpass and scientists from all IARC scientific Branches. The discussions focused on freely accessible information sources that could be used to strengthen cancer prevention programmes in Brazil.

IARC scientists and early career scientists spoke to the delegates about the Agency’s collaborations with Brazilian institutions and researchers, notably within the framework of the Latin America and the Caribbean Code Against Cancer and the PRECAMA study of premenopausal breast cancer in women in Latin America. This knowledge exchange will enable future collaborations based on newly established contacts between scientists.

Brazil is one of the 27 IARC Participating States, and IARC and the Ministry of Health of Brazil will continue their joint activities to prevent cancer in Brazil and globally.
