Launch of Childhood Leukemia International Consortium website to host working documents

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) today launched a new website to host the working documents of the Childhood Leukemia International Consortium (CLIC). The website enables authorized CLIC members to access documents such as consortium guidelines and project summaries and approvals. It also provides information to members of the public about the consortium’s mission, collaborating institutions, and research.

CLIC held its annual meeting at IARC in Lyon, France, on 18–20 November 2019. During that meeting, it was formally decided to expand the consortium’s research to include other childhood cancers, and projects have been proposed for brain tumours and embryonal tumours. IARC will host the additional data.

CLIC was established in 2007 and builds on data and biospecimens from more than 25 case–control studies worldwide. Leukaemia is the most common cancer type in children worldwide. The etiology of childhood leukaemia remains largely unknown, mainly because of its biological diversity and multifactorial etiology. The unprecedented number of children whose data are available to CLIC for pooling enhances the statistical power of analyses to investigate the role of prenatal and postnatal exposures in the etiology of childhood cancers.
